Whiffy Bean Bags did not make any Whiffys this weekend! boo hoo..... and to make matters worse, we spent all today mopping the house! Should be back at it tomorrow. But the best part of the day was Nate receiving an award for caring at his school and Alexa was able to present to him! He was proud, she was proud and I was proud! What a moment...

Here is little Girl is her mommy made Pebbles costume. You can't see the bone in her hair but its their for added effect! Had the big kids Halloween parade yesterday, did a little pumpkin patching and now on to our annual kids Halloween party tonight! Tucked the Whiffy sewing machine away for a couple days but no fear it will be back on Monday! Have a safe Halloween everyone!

Who is going to be Pebbles Flintstone for Halloween? Yous guessed it, Aly Bobaly! She will be joining a Police Man and Hannah Montana on her first real trick or treat adventure this year. The girl loves candy and being as cute as she is, I am sure she will score big on Sunday night.

This is Alyson showing off one for her famous moves! She has been doing this for months and just finds it hysterical. I couldn't perform this stunt if I tried or was forced into it. I love watching all the goofy things these kids do...and not take a look at Nate's outfit...luckily those are his pajamas but what a combo! It is a lazy Sunday morning around here on this dreary Harvest day...I am loving it!

Harvest is happening around here and that means our Whiffy Daddy, Paul works pretty much 7 days a week, although Sundays he tries to keep it to half day. No current plans for this afternoon, could be the pool, could be hanging at home sewing halloween costumes, could be decorating the house of halloween, could be making soap? the possibilities are endless..what do you like to do on a Sunday afternoon?

In the past 2 years, I have become an avid FB'er! It has been an invaluable "homey" spot for me especially since moving away from all my friends in March 2009. I have been able to stay in touch with those people as well as having reacquainted myself with dozens of friends from college, high school and even elementary school! I truly enjoy reading the goings on with my all my friends, I some times snicker, I some times have memories flash back and some times I am disgusted by what I read! My kids and their Whiffy Ices

Over the years my own kids have collected their fair share of Whiffy Ices. They get the ones I commonly refer to as seconds...might be a bit wonky in the sewing, maybe a random stain, just something that I do not feel should go out to the rest of the world. Right now in our freezer, we have about 6 Ices. For some reason they all came out tonight and became the toy of the evening...as you can see they have many uses. Not pictured is our little Aly...after playing monkey in the middle for about 10 minutes with the big kids and then pummeling them with Ices, she decided to sit this picture out...

Holiday shopping is upon us now....

The Holidays are quickly approaching and in fact I have already started my shopping. I have crocheted food, sweet bracelets, hair bows, earrings and other assorted stocking stuffers already put away for the big Christmas day. Anyone else shopping already? If you are in need of any stocking stuffers, I hear our Whiffy Ices make a great addition....just saying!

Looks like it has been just shy of 2 years since our last blog post! and have things changed around the Whiffy Bean Bags home front, including the home! In March of 2009 we moved to the central coast of California, Los Olivos to be exact. My husband is now the winemaker at a fairly well known winery down here.

In May of 2009, we welcomed our last little Whiffy, Alyson Mackenzie to the world! She joined Alexa, then 6 and Nate, then 4.

Whiffy Bean Bags went on hiatus for many, many months but got back up and running in the Summer of 2010. We made some changes to our business plan and have now decided to offer our Whiffys thru Etsy in addition to Universal Mama every other Monday night on Hyena Cart. Our regular website as you have known it for the past 3 years will no longer be running.

We also have simplified our product line. We currently offer the regular Whiffy Bean Bags, the Whiffy Ices, the Whiffys Ice Eye Pillow and will be offering on a limited basis the Whiffy magnet. These changes were a result of the latest laws under the CPSIA.

Took the kiddos to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk last Saturday! Rode some rides, ate corn dogs gazed at the beach and back home we went! It was a quick trip but they had fun all the same!

Need a new scent for the Whiffy Poo?

Some of you may know that Whiffy Bean Bags has a product called the Whiffy Poo. Details may be viewed on our website.

We currently make them to smell like roses..you know after the cliche.....I also have a scent called flatulence, but man does it stink!

So this is where I need help? what should the Poo smell like other than roses????

Please post a comment to this post with your suggestion and if we go with your scent suggestion, we will send you a Whiffy Poo in that scent!

Fun day with the kids!

If anyone else out there has a Husband who is a Winemaker, you will know what it means to be a "harvest widow". My husband is in full swing at his job bringing in grapes, crushing them and doing whatever else you do when are in the middle of "harvest".

So yesterday found me with the entire day alone with my kiddos...not a common occurrence on the weekends here. I took them out to Earth Child in Sebastopol. A great waldorf toy store...they had a wonderful time and I was able to look at in person waldorf doll kits. I might just get one before Christmas to try my hand at it!

From Earth Child we headed over to Howarth Park in Santa Rosa. Rode the train and the carousel, played on the spide web and the structure, had a popsicle and then headed home. 2 hours total driving, 3 hours of fun! a good day!

There has been a lot of activity in Research and Development this summer at Whiffy Bean Bags. I, the Whiffy Husband, have been toiling away in the kitchen discovering the incredible craft of soap making. Over the last year, we've been enjoying so many wonderful and creative soaps from a great number of WAHMs, and I thought, "What a fantastic challenge. I'm going to learn to make soap."
So far in the last three weeks I've made 3 batches of soaps, and I've been learning an incredible amount about timing, "trace", and how oils behave a much higher pH's. At worst we're going to have some handmade soap to use up in our home, but at best we're going to have some great smelling Christmas gifts for families and friends, or even another product line for Whiffy Bean Bags!
I should add that we will continue to buy from our favorite soap producers, It's going to be a long time before I can produce our favorite soaps!

I need to start making some more Whiffy Smoos in some new cool colors and patterns. If you are not familiar with our Smoo, you can get more details at Whiffy Bean Bags.

I need some help in determining what people want a blanket to look like? Brown and pink? red? purple? all minkee? some flannel? cotton woven on one side? or?????????????

but I wanted to let you all know that Whiffy Bean Bags will be doing its first craft faire! We are going to Petlaluma on June 29 12-5 for the Craftaluma! Not positive of the exact location but details to come....this is our first one and we are really excited. I have been busy sewing lots of Whiffy products, crating our first real "instock inventory" as most of our products are all custome made once ordered!

Well by golly, I have not posted in quite some time. I have no real excuse for it either. We are sill working on some fabric combos for the larger Smoos...nothing really set in stone at the moment other than wanting ones side to be minkee swirl! That stuff is heavenly....

Tried out some Whiffy magnets but I was not happy with the strength of the magnets so I am on a hunt for some ultra strong magnets.

Other than the usual orders etc, nothing else new happening here!

We currently make our Smoos as a "lovey" sized blanket, so 14"x14".....but we are branching out and headed toward making a larger version! maybe closer to 34"x54"! I am really excited about this!

If you are reading this and have an idea on what colors or minkee patterns would make for great Smoos, please leave me a comment. I am trying to come up with some new color combos and I am a little stumped! Thanks!

So we had some friends over for a chili cook-off and thought we would catch the commercials in between the mingling! well by golly..I am glad I caught the last 4 minutes of that game---what an ending! It was great!

Jessica of a Ray of Stitches is another WAHM over on Hyena Cart and also happens to be part of the cooperative, Something on Hyena Cart of which I also am a member! Jessica makes some wonderful toys and in fact I have some of her cool wooden money. She also makes doll diapers, tic tac toe sets, bean bags in her toy repertoire. But that is not it, I also know that Jessica knits....She is sort of the "you name it, she can make it kinda gal"!

So I am all gung ho on the Blog thing and then I let 11 days go by without a post. Sorry, in case any one was reading daily hoping for a new post! Well here it is!

We sent out our first Whiffy Bean Bags newsletter last week and launched our new Monthly Whiffy Welcome. We've received positive feedback on this Welcome so I am really excited about it!

OH and I got a new sewing machine last week! I bought a Janome 2040 not too fancy but considering all I do is straight stitch, how fancy do I need to get! It is smooth and quiet compared to my Singer and much heavier! now Paul can take over my Singer and we can sew at the same time! I would love an embroidery machine but really do I need one? probably not! Just love the thought.

I am planning to make some new Smoos this week to list on our website. Stay tuned for those.....

Wrapped Up In Love

Isn't that the cutest name? I have the privilege of working with some great WAHMs over at Hyena Cart and Raeanne, the WAHM behind Wrapped Up In Love is one of them! This single Mom of the cutest little boy makes a ton of great stuff- baby carriers, diaper, mama pads, clothes, toys, you name it!

In addition to stocking at WAHM Originals, Raeanne is planning to open her own Hyena Cart in the near future, where she will sell diapers and carriers, as well as other things that she loves to make such as mama cloth, market bags, toys, baby clothes, etc.

My name is Leah and I am a Mom to 2 great kiddos, Alexa and Nate and a wonderful wife to Paul. My goal to create successful business, the Whiffy way, began in August of 2006. Messed around with drying lavender from our backyard, bought a sewing machine, learned to sew with it, got some cute little Blues Clue's fabric and made a lavender sachet...designed for my 3 year old daughter! Thought hey...I can make great smelling lavender sachets not in those old fashioned embroidered lavender flower fabrics but in fun fabrics that kids like, then I can go throw them in the kids' drawers for a little extra scent! My daughter loved her "bean bags" as she called them....and after an exhaustive thesaurus check for a word for "scented", Whiffy Bean Bags began as did the road to creating a successful business! So this is why I am here....so you can keep up with my current success and/or lack of success at times, if that so happens....but if all goes as planned that million dollar company will be in reach soon!
